  • The Luminous Bath is a nice euphemism -bath is warm, cleansing, health-giving, luminous -glowing, enlightening? I sometimes see it as an semi-voluntary exo-neural system – we are born into a given culture with somewhat standard sensory abilities and now, we are expected to link up in particular ways. It is not socially acceptable to not have a cell phone or not have internet access in many circles. ‘Information’ is not neutral. Commercial and political agendas govern much of the ‘information’. Vast populations do not have the capacity for critical thinking which makes them/us easier to govern. (the sub-prime mess is a case of that) The lack of a capacity for critical thinking may be part of the agendas. I may be blaming the messenger. There have always been commercial and political agendas and people who were swept along by them. (the Crusades, Nazis etc). The immediacy and pervasiveness of this bath, not to mention much of its rank contents concern me. What about the boiled frog: Put it in the soup pot, heat it up gradually and the frog is cooked before it figures out that it is time to hop out! What if Obama is not a really well-meaning person? What if Cheney had been able to use the internet to influence voters? The semi-voluntary exo-neural system or luminous bath is not like our digestive systems which will often involuntarily purge itself of ingested toxins. We haven’t coexisted within it long enough to have natural defenses. If the LB has its own intelligence or agenda, nobody knows what it is, but the best guess would be: its own survival.
